Terror
Why terrorist attacks take place?
Every action is an expression of a person’s thinking and the response of the environment around them. A tear is a response to a happy or a sad moment. A gift maybe a response to a certain occasion. This deals on a micro level, on a macro level we have extremism. A response to a person’s thinking where the environment around them makes them a prime target for extremists that leads to indoctrination of their mind. This leads to a creation of a terrorist. An unheard soul, an unresponsive near and dears but a prime mind to imprint such ideology in that moment of fear makes them believe a better life is by the defense of self and “like-minded people”. A textbook definition of a terrorist is a person who uses violence, mayhem, and destruction or the threat of those things to coerce people or countries into taking a certain action. Sounds like a multi marketing pyramid scheme, sign up one guy make him sign two more guys and so on but the methods are north of the marketing techniques taught in MBA classes. An attack is one of the tools at their disposal, one which has a minimal requirement with maximum coverage. That’s the war today, the eyes of the world. 10 men, 4 days, 1 city India 26/11. 19 men, 2 airlines and 10 years of war 9/11.
Terrorist attacks happen due to various magnitude of reasons but the main one is to garner attention. The failure on part of the government to protect its citizen add to the list of reason these attacks are successful. Media is a potent weapon of war in the 21st century and as dictators and countries paraded their militaries ad technologies to show off the development, terrorists used such attacks to turn the eyes of the world on them and their agenda. Agenda’s might be political, religious or just revenge. It’s used to disrupt the democratic process like the Naxal groups or to ensure the political mandate of the elections keep certain groups of people in mind while drafting policies. Also is justified under the pretext of “defense” one’s religion from the “zealots” of the west or used to target a majority or a minority.
The Purpose of a memorial
A memorial is an object which serves as a focus for the memory or the commemoration of something, usually an influential, deceased person or a historical, tragic event. For the generation that builds the memorial, there’s usually a personal connection that is felt through relatives or through a connection to the event itself. It’s pretty unlikely that people will put a lot of money into something that they don’t feel passionately connected to. But, then, once those people are gone, sometimes the passion passes on to the next generation and sometimes it doesn’t. It depends on whether there has been constant contact with the memorial, and whether people feel that it’s still relevant to their lives and make a point of visiting it over time. A memorial is a physical representation of time and emotion that were felt by the people for the certain event. The piece also ensures that the lessons learnt are never forgotten. A memorial stands as an educating factor about the people and its time. Memorials like the Amar jawan jyoti is a tribute to the nameless soldiers who laid down their lives defending this country others like the 9/11 memorial showcases and stands as a pillar of reason and support on the actions, US took to apprehend the people responsible for this attack. Memorials give the people a physical attachment to look over and clear their thoughts about their loved ones who were involved in the event. It gives them hope that even in the worse circumstances their names won’t be forgotten but be etched as warning or learning or a testimony for the future generation to look up too.
